Local lawyer fills vacancy on board

Robbinsville – The Robbinsville Tourism Authority has welcomed Brady Cody, a Robbinsville lawyer, as its newest board member. “I think it’s a good thing. I think we’re going to make things happen,” said Debbie Beasley, town alderman, chairman of the RTA board, and interim RTA director.

Lester Stewart, 89 of the Anderson Creek community of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away, Saturday, April 30, 2022, at his residence. He was a native of Graham County, and the son of the late Tillman and Lenora Cook Stewart.

Nunez enters ‘not guilty’ plea

Robbinsville – A Robbinsville man accused in the February death of his 8-month-old daughter pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in Graham County Superior Court on May 4. Corbin Nunez – 22 and a resident of the Five Points community – was arrested on Feb.

Hiwassee Dam – If you are keeping track at home, that’s one goal down and two to go. The Robbinsville Lady Knights confirmed their dominance over the Smoky Mountain Conference on Monday, adding the program’s fifth-straight divisional title with a 7-3 win at Hiwassee Dam.

Graham County Schools to ask for bigger contribution

Robbinsville – Earlier this year, an auditor advised that Graham County School District has been operating “paycheck to paycheck” and needed an additional $100,000 a year contribution from the county to maintain basic operations. It turns out that estimate was optimistic.

Topton – There is a weathered wooden sign on a rutted turnout off U.S. Highway 129 southeast of Robbinsville that tells part of a story. “Timber for tomorrow,” the sign reads. “A low quality stand of timber was logged from this area in 1977.
