Two sanitation sites closing July 1

After engaging with the public during a May 8 hearing, Graham County has announced new operational procedures for its sanitation sites.The biggest change involves the closure of Bear Creek and Snowbird's convenience centers, which becomes effective Wednesday, July 1.

Residents offer up ideas for sanitation grant

Robbinsville – Following the announcement of a $1.4 million sanitation grant that will benefit Graham County, the board of commissioners welcomed input during a public hearing Friday.

State warns county about sanitation

Eyebrows were recently raised at the state level regarding the pivot on how sanitation centers are operated in Graham County.
Graham County was without all eight of its sanitation sites for roughly three weeks, but it appears that the  absence of convenience did little to teach those who are largely responsible for the original closures – as evident from this snapshot taken at the Snowbird site on the morning of Feb. 5.

All trash sites re-opened

Dumpsters were returned to the Bear Creek sanitation site Friday, officially signaling that all eight of the county’s trash centers were back open for business. However, the same issues that played a large role in the board of commissioners’ decision to close five of the locations Jan.

Dumpster problems thrown in the trash

Robbinsville – “I think we need to redesign the plan, but we need public input before a new plan is put in place.
Constant vandalism and a blatant disregard for  stipulations that items such as this insulation-filled bundle of debris – left at the Bear Creek convenience site Oct. 4 – need to instead be dumped at the county’s sanitation center, has propelled the department and commissioners alike to take necessary action.

Sanitation, urgent care addressed

Robbinsville – Updates on the Graham County Urgent Care and Family Practice, and the Graham County Sanitation Department were provided during Dec. 19’s Graham County Board of Commissioners meeting.
