Officials concerned about rescues on local trail

Search and rescue officials are alarmed at the high number of people needing to be rescued after straying off course at Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. One trail in particular, the Naked Ground Trail, accounts for more rescues than all other Graham County trails.

‘Demo the Silos’ aimed at bridging gaps

Robbinsville – When Michelle Shiplet became executive director of Graham Revitalization Economic Action Team (GREAT) in 2019, she found a shelf filled with community improvement plans for Graham County and Robbinsville that – at best – were only partially accomplished.

Vivian Griggs Surber

Vivian Griggs Surber, 80 of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away, on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Juanita Hayes Griggs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Griggs. Vivian was born in Alcoa, Tenn.

Justice center project could reach $23 million

Robbinsville – Architectural and engineering firms will be invited to show their interest and qualifications in the construction of a central justice center off West Fort Road, as county staff looks for funding for the project – which could cost upward of $23 million.

Final numbers released from auction

Tallulah – Flexible Funding, LLC. – Graham County Land Company’s largest creditor – is entitled to payment from auction proceeds of $1.98 million as partial reimbursement of an estimated total debt of more than $32 million, including $18.89 million owed to Flexible Funding alone.

Bison EV announcement ‘premature’

Robbinsville – An announcement by Mayor Shaun Adams earlier this month that a company that retrofits electric vehicles will be opening a manufacturing plant in Robbinsville “was premature,” the company’s chief executive told The Graham Star.
