New Fontana ORC appointed

Fontana Dam – A local municipality hopes to finally put the kibosh on heavy overturn at its water plant. The Town of Fontana Dam appointed Carrie Stewart as its new ORC (operator-in-responsible charge) in an unanimous council vote at its April 20 meeting.

New members appointed to Fontana Dam council

Fontana Dam – Graham County’s smallest municipality is once again being governed by a full council. Two new members were appointed and sworn in at the Town of Fontana Dam council meeting, bringing the council up to five seats once again, including Mayor Rob Hardy.

Council weighs garbage truck purchase

Fontana Dam – One local municipliaty is continuing to work toward acquiring a new garbage truck. At the Town of Fontana Dam council’s regular meeting held on Oct. 20, the council discussed plans to acquire a new garbage truck to serve the town.

Iva Lee Beasley Turpin

Iva Lee Beasley Turpin, 86 of the Bee Cove community of Fontana Dam, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at Mountain View Manor Nursing Center in Bryson City, N.C. She was a native of Graham County and the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Gunter Beasley.

Fontana still exploring new election schedule

Fontana Dam – A local municipality is continuing to look at matched four-year terms for its council.  At its Aug. 18 meeting, Town of Fontana Dam Clerk Zelerie Rogers said she had authorized the town attorney to look into the next steps for the process.

Fontana accepts board member’s resignation

Fontana Dam – In light of recent legal troubles, a town council member has tendered his resignation. Jason Duke’s exit from the board was agreed upon at the town’s July 21 meeting, which came after Duke was arrested on June 11 following an alleged multi-hour incident through the town’s resort.
