* A series of winter storms paralyzed Graham County. Up to a foot or more of snow fell during these storms, keeping road crews busy with overtime hours. U.S. 129 South and the parking lot at The Graham Star were clogged with snow before the crews could clear the roads.
* Senior Jagger Queen was named the Smoky Mountain Conference Offensive Lineman of the 2011 football season. The senior leader ended the season with 85 tackles, 36 assists, two tackles for a loss, one fumble recovery, one sack, one forced fumble and one interception. Spencer McCoy may have been the first freshman in the state to earn All-Conference honors. He finished the season with 122 tackles, three assists, two fumbled recoveries and one forced fumble.

* “Robbinsville needs a quarter of a million dollars to fix its new water system,” said Mayor Bobby Cagle, Jr. A major flaw in design prevents 43 customers on Long Creek, from receiving adequate water pressure. Some residents on Long Creek have only four wins of pressure for each customer. The new system might not provide that on Long Creek. The town council agreed to help individuals in buying booster pumps at a lower rate.
* The Robbinsville Black Knight junior varsity boys defeated the Murphy Bulldogs, Dec. 21, to take home the Murphy Christmas Tournament Championship. The final score was Robbinsville 76, Murphy 45. Tyson Stiles was named MVP of the tournament and Jacob Nelms was named as one of the All-Tournament players. The defensive effort of the team played the biggest part in capturing the championship.
