* A lawsuit filed by the Graham County Board of Commissioners against Swain County – over a boundary dispute – was settled and resulted in establishing the boundary between the two counties as the center line of the Little Tennessee River. Swain County Manager Kevin King confirmed the agreement. Graham County filed the lawsuit in 2010 to receive payment, in lieu of $15 million from the time that the dam was built in 1943, claiming the boundaries put most of Tennessee Valley Authority’s assets in Graham County.

* The Lady Knight Termites finished a perfect season with a win over Ranger. They were one of five teams awarded trophies for winning the conference and the going undefeated in the tournament. They also won the regular season.

* Charlie Buchanan hoped people in the community would come to the aid of the Old Mother Church once again. Buchanan had been caretaker of the church and cemetery since 1972, being part of a lot of projects to make the church useable again. At the time, Buchanan noted, “A new septic system would have to be installed. I hope the people will support this project as they have in the past, with donations.” Buchanan said that he hopes “to keep right on doing his service” for as long as he lives.

* The championship came two games closer for the Robbinsville junior varsity boys, after defeating the Andrews Wildcats 74-44, in an intense game. Andrews put up a good fight, but couldn’t prevail. At halftime the score was 34-32, Robbinsville. The Knights’ top scorers of the game were Jacob Nelms with 14 points and Tyson Stiles with 12 points.

* A unique service that would allow Master Charge cardholders to write checks on their back-charge card accounts was being tested. “The new service called Budget Check would allow Master Charge holders to write special checks to pay for any unexpected expenses,” said Hugh E. Gentry, Senior Vice President and head of Wachovia Western Division. “It would provide our Master Charge customers a convenient way of paying unexpected bills on which they wish to spread out payments.”

* The Robbinsville basketball boys defeated Andrews, 55-38 and later in the week, Mountain View 57-42. In their game with Andrews, Jacob Jackson with 17 points led Robbinsville scoring. Assisting Jackson were Tony Howell and Larry Williams, with 10 points each. The Robbinsville boys later slipped by Murphy in overtime, 63-62. In this game, Jacob Jackson with 20 points and Phil Orr with 14 points, led scoring for the local boys.
