* Seventy-seven students received their diplomas during graduation ceremonies at Robbinsville High School. These graduates had a National Merit Finalist, Jack McCray, for the first time since 1991. If awarded he would also be the first Graham County student to win this scholarship, which was based – in part – on SAT scores. As four other students were also awarded scholarships from the Golden LEAF Foundation, the most of any school in western North Carolina, President Dan Gerlach made the trip to the mountains to personally give the students their scholarships. There were 161 students in the high school with a grade point average of 3.30 or higher that were recognized.
* Each year the school recognized the top athletes with R-Club awards. Athletes had to maintain a high grade point average and letter in at least two sports to win the award. The 2012 recipient was Ashton Orr. She had participated in volleyball, cheerleading, basketball and track, and graduated third in her class. The Robbinsville High School Judy Nichols Sportsmanship award was a tie, and both Orr and McCall Anderson won the coveted award. The Bob Colvin Sportsmanship Award went to Joey Cable and the Ed Jackson Most Valuable Athlete award went to Katie Williams.

* “If you think you own lake front property, you probably do not,” Robert Moseley told Santeetlah residents. Zeyland McKinney, the town’s attorney, backed up Moseley’s assertion. McKinney opened a plat showing a strip of land between the deed’s description of the lot and the 1817 contour line at the water’s edge. According to McKinney, the town needed to give the property owner a quit claim deed for their strip of land and have the land surveyed to establish new boundaries. If not resolved, the property owner can’t advertise their property for sale as lake from property. This strip of “no-man’s-land” varies in width around the shoreline.
* “The class of 2000 was the largest honor class in 13 years that Graham County had held an academic awards program for,” said guidance counselor Nina Yeargin. Honor students received plaques in recognition of their diligence at the Robbinsville High School auditorium, while family and friends cheered them on.
