* A bear was spotted in downtown Robbinsville near the old VFW post, dining on a couple of sacks of garbage. The year’s bountiful, low-elevation acorn crop – and a poor berry crop on high ridges – sent the creatures into town.
* The theme for the homecoming parade was, “Here’s to a Knight,” with special guest Trey Odom. Odom was part of the Little League Baseball World Series, Southeast Division Champions and is the son of Candy and Scott, formerly of Robbinsville.

* The Robbinsville High School building was scheduled to be demolished, due to a feasibility study. The study was ordered by Superintendent Donald Andrews and was rated a “Code 5” by the state Department for School Planning. The rating indicated that “renovation or modification was not feasible, nor recommended.” According to Andrews, there were plans to use the stones to build a memorial, marking its location.
* The Robbinsville Lady Knights played a tough volleyball match against Andrews. During the third game, Andrews came on strong. After they gained the ball – as well as two points – Krissy Williams served and Andrews hit the ball out, for a 15-12 win for the Knights.
50 years ago
* Homecoming festivities for 1971 were held on Robbinsville’s field with the theme “As Time Goes On.” During halftime, Kathleen Orr was crowned Miss Black Knight, with Vicki Walsh as second runner-up. Kathleen was crowned by Sandra Phillips, who was “Miss Black Knight” of 1970.
