New election office on the way

Robbinsville – Graham County Board of Elections chairman Juanita Colvard provided the latest update on a planned move into a new facility. Colvard has been speaking with Jason Marino – the new county project manager – about re-modeling a wing in the Graham County Community Building.

Nichols named scholarship finalist

Local high school senior Emma Nichols has been named a semi-finalist for the 2020 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar, which will see 150 college scholarships worth $20,000 awarded.

Local HOSA students advance to state finals

Sylva – The Health Occupational Students of America club at Robbinsville High School traveled to Southwestern Community College on Friday, Nov. 15, to compete in the Regional Leadership Competition.  Robbinsville’s HOSA club continues to increase their wins each year and this year was no different.

Child molester gets 16 years

Robbinsville – Superior Court Judge William H. Coward sentenced Timothy Cecil Walters, 47, of Robbinsville to a minimum of 16 years in the N.C. Department of Corrections during Graham County Superior Court on Dec. 5.  Walters’ sentence could run as long as 24 years, three months.

Town weighs new system

Robbinsville – An automated system that would alert customers of water outages was heavily discussed at Dec. 4’s Town of Robbinsville meeting. Shari Birchfield laid out the research done thus far on the system.

Robbinsville – In the final home game of the year, the Black Knights showed why they are 14-0. Robbinsville welcomed the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons on Friday night, to determine the 1A Western Regional champion.

Knights reach 1A state title game

Robbinsville – For the first time since 2015, Robbinsville is heading to the state finals. The Black Knights (14-0) defeated the visiting Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons (12-2) to win the 1A Western Regional Championship Friday night, 28-14.

Knights split with Jackets

  Robbinsville – In the lone middle school hoops action of the week, Robbinsville hosted Hayesville on Nov. 25. The Lady Knights improved to 3-1 by picking up a 46-36 victory, while the Knights (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of a 54-32 Jackets triumph.
