30 grams of suspected meth seized in raid

Billy Jack Heinzer Robbinsville – Officers struck paydirt Friday, when a 5-month investigation resulted in a large amount of suspected methamphetamine being discovered at a local residence. Around 8:47 p.m.

Lead-based paint lingers in jail

Robbinsville – It’s no secret: the current Graham County Detention Center has maintained a current status long after its expiration date. Between 30-40 inmates are “housed” at any given time by the jail; of that, only eight beds are on-site.

Items found lead to ID

Deep Creek – The family of 88-year-old Donald Storey have accepted the findings of both evidence collected from an Aug. 18 discovery and DNA testing as confirmation of his death.

Autopsy shifts case to homicide

Robbinsville – Almost 11 months after a local woman was found deceased, autopsy findings have finally be unveiled. Blunt-force trauma, methamphetamine toxicity and environmental hypothermia were cited as the causes of Carley Dunn Walls’ death on Feb. 5, 2023.

Local children ‘Shop with a Cop’

Murphy – The Graham County Sheriff’s Office spread holiday cheer to local children last week, with the annual “Shop with a Cop” event taking place Dec. 14.

Officer receives DWI Task Force training award

Robbinsville – Graham County Patrol Officer Justin Stewart was recognized Oct. 19 for completing courses pertaining to Driving While Impaired Task Force training. Stewart completed three courses that took about 72 hours. He has been on patrol for the county sheriff’s office for two years.

Suspected meth found near daycare

Robbinsville – Another search warrant was recently executed inside the Cheoah Mobile Home Park on Ford Street. The Graham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit raided a home at the back of the park July 28. Three arrests were made that night, but a return visit Sept.

‘Death by Distribution’ changes enacted

Raleigh – The General Assembly passed – and Gov. Roy Cooper recently signed into law – Senate Bill 189, “Fentanyl Drug Offense and Related Changes.” The bill revises North Carolina’s Death by Distribution law, as well as fentanyl crimes.
