Robbinsville – A project in place to alleviate some of Graham County’s housing woes took a big step forward Tuesday morning. Ground was officially broken on the Rural Development Authority Moose Branch Subdivision Project.

The Cherohala Skyway marked its 25th anniversary earlier in October. The road runs from Robbinsville to Tellico Plains, Tenn., offering stunning views and ascending to 5,400 feet at its highest point.

The Cherohala Skyway celebrated a major milestone earlier this month, marking a quarter century open on Oct. 12. The road – which connects Robbinsville with Tellico Plains, Tenn. – was opened to travelers for the first time on Oct. 12, 1996 and is one of the country’s National Scenic Byways.

Lake Santeetlah – One local municipality is looking at ways to increase its Internet speed. Town of Lake Santeetlah council member Roger Carlton gave a presentation discussing possible ways to improve Internet service for town residents at the Oct. 14 meeting.

Cameras stolen from a Tallulah residence Oct. 10 were located within a matter of hours. Graham County sheriff’s Deputy Courtney Heaton reported to a residence on Spring Hill Road, after a call came in about a trespasser on the property.

Fort Hill – As of Oct. 14, work has begun on a crucial Graham County project. In his report at the Graham County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, County Manager Jason Marino said Western Builders of Sylva had started work on securing the walls of the Robbinsville Elementary School Gym.

Fort Hill – Graham County has welcomed its new EMS Director, filling a crucial vacancy after an interim period lasting more than two weeks. Phillip Boyle started as the county’s new EMS director Monday, after being hired on Oct. 6.

Snowbird – The Graham County Rescue Squad, Graham County EMS, and the Graham County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a man down in the woods around 4:40 p.m. Monday. The call stated that a man was down in the woods above Dick Branch Road. Responding units reached the man about 6:15 p.m.

Graham County sheriff’s deputies have made a pair of recent drug arrests, thanks to routine patrol work. Around 9:15 p.m. Sept. 25, officers spotted a car driving on Rodney Orr Bypass that was not displaying a license plate.
