10 years ago * More than two pounds of methamphetamine – with a street value of $90,000 – was discovered in a raid at a Robbinsville home. Scott Hardin and Celena Lane were arrested while allegedly in the process of cooking meth in an “out-building.” The pair faced numerous charges.

This Week in Local History: Sept. 29, 2022

10 years ago * Kim Carringer – media coordinator for Robbinsville Middle and High schools – started a reading club. In 2011, more than 20 students joined, with 13 finishing the course. “The most important thing for me is to have children reading at their proper level,” said teacher Warren Knott.

10 years ago * Larry the Cable Guy rolled into Fontana Village Resort with his production team to film an episode of his “Only in America” cable series. While exiting his tour bus, Larry grinned and commented that he would “not want to travel the road often,” referring to N.C. Hwy.

10 years ago * The Graham County Rescue Squad – including Snowbird and Santeetlah departments, along with Graham County EMS – spent Labor Day rescuing a woman from Joyce Kilmer Slickrock Wilderness Area.

10 years ago * A helicopter flyover by the National Guard and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation resulted in the arrest of two men on Little Snowbird Road, for growing marijuana. Sheriff Mickey Anderson said the illegal crop was spotted from the air.

This Week in Local History: Aug. 25, 2022

10 years ago * John Zimmerman of Atlanta and Peter Rockers of Boston entered the Joyce Kilmer Slickrock Wilderness Area at the Ike Branch Trailhead. After making their way up Slickrock, they became lost. The two men spent hours trying to find their way before becoming exhausted.

10 years ago * Teacher of the Year Kevin White was elected as Robbinsville Middle School’s newest principal. “I’ve loved being a teacher and will miss that interaction with the students,” White said.
