Students learn arts and crafts

Stecoah – The Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center hosted a week-long Arrowmont ArtReach-on-the-Road program which gave more than 340 students from Graham and Swain counties the chance to spend a day studying traditional Appalachian arts and crafts in a studio setting.

Native wins nursing scholarship

Winston-Salem – At the 2019 N.C. Nurses Association convention in Winston-Salem, Robbinsville native and University of North Carolina in Wilmington student Tobi Sellers won the Judy Knox College Scholarship. The scholarship helps fund studies at the Duke University School of Nursing in Durham.

Robbinsville – There really was no way to pick from the field of 10 contestants. Each had a million-dollar smile, stunning dresses and unique entrances with their escort. However, someone had to be decreed the 2019 Robbinsville High School homecoming queen.

Duke Energy seeks to raise rates

Raleigh – On Sept. 30, Duke Energy announced plans to raise rates for residential power by 6.7 percent in North Carolina.  This proposed hike would raise rates for commercial and industrial customers as well, but at 1.7 percent less than for residential customers.
