Duke Energy seeks to raise rates

Raleigh – On Sept. 30, Duke Energy announced plans to raise rates for residential power by 6.7 percent in North Carolina.  This proposed hike would raise rates for commercial and industrial customers as well, but at 1.7 percent less than for residential customers.

Chasing history

Rosman – The countdown is on. With 151 rushing yards during Friday's 54-0 win at Rosman, Robbinsville senior Rylee Anderson joined the 5,000-yard club, becoming just the third Black Knight in school history to achieve the feat.

Freshwater jelly time

The existence of the Eastern Mountain Lion might be an item of hot debate in western North Carolina, but scientists have confirmed the existence of an even more unlikely critter: freshwater jellyfish.  According to Gary Peeples of the U.S.

The new center’s first open house offered tours of the facility, as well as refreshments and opportunities to meet the folks who make the center work. 	The state-of-the-art, grant-funded facility opened last November and is the most secure building in Graham County. 	 The 4,000 square-foot structure is tornado-proof and designed to keep operations running in any conditions.

Rodeo, computers lead off commissioners meeting

Robbinsville – Tuesday's meeting of the Graham County Commissioners began with an offer from Dillon Chase Lancaster to put on a rodeo to raise money for the county.  Commissioner Connie Orr said, "You ride the bull; we'll take the money.

County celebrates anniversary of film release
