Knights mow down division

Robbinsville – Amidst a hectic week – filled with conference matches aplenty – Robbinsville wrestling rose to the occasion. The Knights disposed of Murphy 74-6 and Hayesville 60-17 in a Cherokee County tri-match Jan. 9, before traveling to Rosman and downing the Tigers 75-6.

They came to play

Robbinsville – Anyone reading the record book in the future will come across Friday’s home game against Swain County and see that Robbinsville suffered its eighth loss of the season. Perhaps what might get overlooked is just how close the game was.

A look back at 2019

The final year of the decade made for a news-filled campaign inside the pages of The Graham Star. While it is impossible to decipher which stories are the tops for 2019, here are 10 noteworthy events involving Graham County that took place during the last 12 months.

Knights run over Cullowhee Valley

Robbinsville – As Robbinsville Middle School’s basketball program enter the final week of the regular season, both teams are in a prime position for a top seed in the championship tournament.

Robbinsville competes in dual, tournament

The Robbinsville wrestling teams split its duties Saturday, with one crew traveling to the Enka Duals and another taking part in the Osley B. Saunooke Tournament at Cherokee. Robbinsville went 2-3 at the Enka Duals.

Black Knights fall at Rosman

Rosman – In a battle of winless teams, something has to give. Unfortunately for the Robbinsville Black Knights (0-7, 0-3), the win went in-favor of the home team in Tuesday’s battle at Rosman (1-10, 1-5), with the Knights falling to the Tigers, 53-50.

Lady Knights break out the serving trey's

Robbinsville – The last time the Robbinsville Lady Knights varsity basketball team defeated Cherokee, current freshman point guard Desta Trammell was in the fourth grade. That 71-61 home victory over the Lady Braves – which took place Feb.

Forest roads closing until April

From staff reports The Nantahala National Forest will begin seasonal road closures on the Cheoah Ranger District today. Roads are expected to reopen Wednesday, April 1, depending on the weather. Closing roads to motorized vehicles seasonally helps reduce road maintenance costs.

Knights shout at the Devils

Robbinsville – Entering Christmas break, the Robbinsville Middle School basketball program is flying high. The latest triumph for both the Lady Knights (9-1) and the Black Knights (8-2) took place Dec. 19, when Robbinsville welcomed Swain for the final action of 2019.

Knights fall in tourney

Hendersonville – The Robbinsville Black Knights ran afoul of some tough competition at the North Henderson Christmas Tournament. A 73-27 loss to the hosting Knights on Friday was followed by a 71-28 loss at the hands of the Mitchell Mountaineers on Saturday.
