Town settles with Fontana Village

Fontana Dam – After months of back and forth, the Town of Fontana Dam and Fontana Village Inc. have finally settled a past-due debt. The former shareholders presented the town with a $40,000 check, a final offer on the $74,041.

Carol Crisp

Carol Stewart Crisp, 79 of Robbinsville, N.C., went on to be with the Lord in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020. Carol was born on July 25, 1941 on West Buffalo to her parents, Ralph and Maggie Lee Hyde Stewart.  She was one of seven children.

Brawl ends in two arrests

Snowbird – A dispute over use of roadway led to a wild scuffle and later the arrests of two local residents. Shanda Buchanan Dooley, 40 and Todd Hubert Dooley, 48 – both of Riverview Drive – were booked into the Graham County Jail on Aug.

Lake Santeetlah appoints new council member

Lake Santeetlah – The town wasted little time filling its vacant council seat. Following the resignation of Craig Keith on July 17, the council unanimously appointed Kevin Haag as his replacement during the Aug. 13 meeting via Zoom.

Goodbye, Papa George

Robbinsville – Without George Oliver, who knows where the Robbinsville High School wrestling program would be today? Oliver – who, along with Gary Steppe, instituted the now-powerhouse Black Knights grappling team 45 years ago – passed away Aug. 5 at age 68.

Taking the good with the bad

Que Tucker’s announcement was music to athletes’ ears. After months of speculation, the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s commissioner presented during a Aug. 12 press conference a proposed sports calendar for the 2020-21 school year.

Dennis Bowen

Dennis Bowen, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Almond, N.C. on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, after a 20-year battle with cancer.   Dennis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debbie and his daughter Dianna of Asheville.
