Preschool reopens amid gymnasium repairs

Robbinsville – Graham County Manager Jason Marino gave an update on the Robbinsville Elementary School gymnasium at Aug. 17’s Graham County Board of Commissioners meeting. Crews have been looking closely at the gym since late spring, when structural issues with the building became apparent.

Iva Lee Beasley Turpin

Iva Lee Beasley Turpin, 86 of the Bee Cove community of Fontana Dam, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at Mountain View Manor Nursing Center in Bryson City, N.C. She was a native of Graham County and the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Gunter Beasley.

Carolyn Deyton Crisp

Carolyn Deyton Crisp, 72, of the Tuskeegee community in Robbinsville, N.C., died peacefully, Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at home, after a battle with liver cancer.  She was a native of Robbinsville, a graduate of Robbinsville High School and a member of Tuskeegee Baptist Church.

Kris J. Buchanan

Kris J. Buchanan, 47 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, at Swain Community Hospital in Bryson City, N.C. He was a native of Graham County and the son of James Buchanan and Patricia Rogers.

Jackie Darrell Williams

Jackie Darrell Williams, 82 of the Yellow Creek community of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, at Mission Hospital in Asheville N.C. He was a native of Graham County and the son of Dave and Hettie Anderson Williams.

Joyce Elaine Crisp Jenkins

Joyce Elaine Crisp Jenkins, 89 of the Stecoah community in Robbinsville, N.C., passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, after a courageous battle with sarcoma.  Joyce – or “Joycie,” as many of her family and friends called her – was born on May 25, 1932, to Clyde A.

Paul Longbrake

Paul Longbrake, 83 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, at Valley View Rehabilitation and Care Center in Andrews, N.C. Paul was a loving and devoted husband to the late Anne Prator Longbrake.

Jim A. Bird

Jim A. Bird, 64, of the Snowbird Community in Robbinsville, N.C., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021.  He was born in Swain County, N.C. on July 8, 1957, to the late William Bird and Ellen Bird, who survive him.  Jim spent his career working as a logger and then later in life a truck driver.
