Robbinsville hoops experiences tournament blues

Rosman – It wasn’t exactly the ending Robbinsville basketball was hoping for. The Knights began the 2019-20 Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament on Friday and by Monday night, had no teams left on the bracket. The Lady Knights (20-6, No. 4 seed) knocked off Swain County (5-18, No.

Smoky Mountain Conference basketball tournament schedule

Rosman – The Smoky Mountain Conference released its basketball tournament bracket yesterday. The annual event – being held at Rosman this year – has been pushed back one day from its original start date, as it will begin today and conclude Friday, Feb. 21.

Two games, two wins

Robbinsville – For the first time this season, the Black Knights strung together back-to-back wins.  A big conference victory over Rosman (2-18, 1-10) on Tuesday, Feb.

Early success not enough

Robbinsville – The second meeting of the season between Murphy and Robbinsville was surrounded by a lot of hype. For the first quarter, it appeared the Lady Knights had things well in-hand. For the remaining three quarters, the Lady Bulldogs proved different.

Go big or go home

Robbinsville – A strong, second-half defense was only one key to the Black Knights’ success Tuesday night.

Black Knights involved in another near-miss

Highlands – It is an all-too-familiar scenario: the Robbinsville Black Knights, involved in another nailbiter. During Wednesday, Jan. 22’s make-up game at Highlands, the Knights (1-14, 0-8) found themselves in a 58-58 deadlock with the Highlanders (7-13, 2-2) in the closing seconds of regulation.

One second away

Murphy – It took a buzzer-beating 3 and a war of free throws to knock off the Lady Knights on Tuesday night.

Redemption time is here

Andrews – Robbinsville’s chance to both avenge a loss and shake up the Smoky Mountain Conference standings awaits them. The Lady Knights (11-3, 3-3) knocked off Andrews (1-13, 0-7) on Friday, but fell to Cherokee (10-5, 5-2) on Tuesday evening. Up next is Friday, Jan.

Read between the lines

Andrews – Take one look at Robbinsville’s win/loss record and on paper, it looks like a night off for opponents. But how foolish it would be to take the Black Knights (1-11, 0-6) lightly, as the group is clicking and becoming a dangerous foe as the second-half of the season dawns.
