The Rev. Kevin Brooks, 48 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 22, 2020 at his residence, while surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Bobby and Roma Phillips Brooks of Robbinsville, N.C.

Robbinsville – After much anticipation, the Robbinsville High School Class of 2020 can finally rest easy. Graham County Schools announced Tuesday afternoon that a commencement ceremony is set to be held at Modeal Walsh Memorial (Big Oaks) Stadium on Saturday, July 18 at 10 a.m.

Eliza (Liz) L. Simons, 92, of Jacksonville, Fla. – formerly of Robbinsville, N.C. and Fairbury, Ill. – passed away at 7:58 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at her residence in Jacksonville, Fla.  She will be buried in Yellow Creek Cemetery in Robbinsville, N.C. Graveside services are pending.

Glenda Palmer Farley left this planet on Thursday, April 30, 2020.  She leaves behind a loving family and many friends. Gene, her beloved husband, shared a wonderful life with Glenda. And out of that love came Landon, their son. A son who never ceased to amaze and delight each of them.

New seating was installed behind home plate and improvements were made field-wide in preparation for the year, but the cancelation of the remainder of the school year is going to leave seniors school-wide wondering, “What if?" Erma Nichols Hallyburton passed away Monday, April 20 at the Jesse Helms long term care facility in Monroe, N.C. at the age of 104.  Born in Robbinsville, N.C. in 1916, her father was Harrison Nichols and her mother Faye Jones.

Downtown revitalization not too far away

Robbinsville – Plans to revamp downtown were discussed in the most recent town meeting, which was held via teleconference April 22. Local resident John Colwell – who also works with REVVED UP – was sent by the town to the 40th N.C. Main Street Conference in New Bern from March 10-12.

Robbinsville – The worst fears of faculty and students alike were confirmed Friday, when Gov. Roy Cooper announced the statewide cancellation of the remaining 2019-20 school year. Students were originally set to return to K-12 schools Friday, May 15, which would have ended a two-month closure.
