Lucille Sequoyah Owens, 90, of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 13, 2020 at Graham Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was the daughter of the late Ammons and Kina Ledford Sequoyah.

Janet Sue Stewart

Janet Sue Stewart, 75, of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9, 2020, at Graham Healthcare and Rehabilitation. A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Broadus and Juanita Cook Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her son Boyce Rogers, Jr.

Joe Larry Phillips

Joe Larry Phillips, age 80 of Old Tallulah Road in Robbinsville, N.C. passed away, Monday, March 9, 2020 at his residence. He was a native of Graham County and the son of the late Betty Phillips.

Riddle joins 'Graham Star' staff

Tallulah – Hope Riddle has been named the new office manager for The Graham Star. She replaces the departing Kim Cravey, who joined the staff in November. Cravey and her husband Todd are re-locating to suburban Chattanooga.

Fontana – As fishing season ramps up, Fontana Marina – in conjunction with the Boy Scouts – held the sixth annual bass fishing tournament last weekend.  Fontana Lake is a known fishing destination for locals and tourists alike.

Local man killed in auto accident

Tallulah – A two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon on U.S. 129 South claimed the life of a local man. Larry Vance Williams, 65, of Yellow Creek Road, was traveling in a 2016 Kia Soul near the intersection with Jutts Creek Circle when his vehicle left the shoulder.

Time to practice "social distancing"

It’s here … sort of. Though no confirmed cases have been recorded in Graham County – a local man tested negative last week – the much-maligned, heavily discussed coronavirus has forced the hands of lawmakers and officials at the national, state and local levels.

Peaking at the right time

Fayetteville – Anywhere you look, the future of wrestling in Robbinsville is prosperous. The Peak Wrestling Club took five Graham County wrestlers to the NCWay State Championship Tournament, which was held at Fayetteville’s Crown Coliseum on Feb. 29.

Robbinsville High shines at history competition

Cullowhee – Robbinsville High School students recently competed in the National History Day Competition, held at Western Carolina University.   Sixteen students placed in various contests and every Robbinsville student qualified for the state competition, which will be held at Raleigh’s N.C.
