Case count reaches 6

Four cases in 10 days. A slow trend if you look most anywhere, but for Graham County, which stood as one of the final four in North Carolina to not have a positive case of COVID-19, it might raise some eyebrows.

Carolyn Sue Odom

Carolyn Sue Phillips Odom, 86 of the Sweetgum Community in Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord early Monday, June 8, 2020, at her residence. A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Minnie Collett Phillips.

Jackie Orr

Jackie “Stud” Orr, 82 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at his residence. A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Floyd and Lillie Jordan Orr.

Robbinsville High awards senior students

Robbinsville – It is normally a highly attended, smile-filled event. However, as with everything else in 2020, the coronavirus pandemic forced Robbinsville High School to get creative with its annual senior awards ceremony.

Ending on a high note

Eleven years ago, the position of music director at Graham County Schools made the transition from Joseph Earp to a new, fresh-out-of-college director, Jameson Stout.  As a senior in high school, Stout’s band program underwent a director transition.

County jail needs $25K

Robbinsville – As Graham County examines its pending budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year, there is still help needed in the current fiscal year.

Fontana Village abandons lease

Fontana Dam – The rumor mill is not ready to completely stop turning, but the wind surrounding it has certainly died down.  The owners of Fontana Village Resort & Marina opted in a June 1 meeting with the Tennessee Valley Authority to surrender its lease back to the TVA.
