Billy Lamar Birchfield Sr., 74 of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away, Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at his residence. He was a native of Graham County, and the son of the late Ed and Reva Dale Hooper Birchfield.

Richard A. Martin Jr., 58 of Robbinsville, NC passed away, Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Murphy, N.C. He was a native of Graham County and the son of the late Richard Martin, Sr. and Evelyn Swanson, and the grandson of Reverend Cliff and Maggie George.

Part-time employee benefits halted by town

Robbinsville – The town will no longer provide benefits to part-time town employees, the Robbinsville Board of Aldermen decided in a 3-0 vote at its meeting at its March 2 meeting. Benefits packages had included health, dental and life insurance.

Stats show Cherohala Skyway is Graham County’s deadliest road

The Tail of the Dragon and Hellbender 28 may be famous for their thrills (and spills), but scenic Cherohala Skyway is the most dangerous of the three major touring routes in Graham County. The trends were revealed by data collected by N.C. Department of Transportation from 2016-20.

Robbinsville – As Graham County gears up for tourist season, a number of major projects and potential projects are on the horizon. Here are some things to watch over the next couple of years.

Robbinsville – A Robbinsville man was shot and wounded in Lincoln County – and is facing felony charges – after he pushed his way into a Lincoln County home to check on his wife, and got into a fight with a man she had been staying with.

Candidate draws on Army experience

Robbinsville – Of all the days for Rod Honeycutt to be campaigning, Tuesday, March 1, could have been better. First, all his campaign literature stated he was running for the North Carolina 14th Congressional District, but court-ordered redistricting changed his district to the 11th.

Sights set on district tourney

Cruso – For the second straight week, Robbinsville’s shooting team hit the road for another competition; this time, the MidWest Tournament.

Candidate filing draws crowd

Robbinsville – At long last, candidate filing for 2022 elections concluded at noon Friday. Locally, candidates turned out in droves for both the sheriff’s and board of commissioners races. Several filed for the Graham County Board of Education, while a pair of races will go uncontested.
