Body recovered in woods

Snowbird – The Graham County Rescue Squad, Graham County EMS, and the Graham County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a man down in the woods around 4:40 p.m. Monday. The call stated that a man was down in the woods above Dick Branch Road. Responding units reached the man about 6:15 p.m.

Traffic stops yield drug arrests

Graham County sheriff’s deputies have made a pair of recent drug arrests, thanks to routine patrol work. Around 9:15 p.m. Sept. 25, officers spotted a car driving on Rodney Orr Bypass that was not displaying a license plate.

John Hedrick

John Ted Hedrick, 89, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at his son’s home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Jasper and Mary Stewart Hedrick and a lifelong resident of the Snowbird community in Robbinsville, N.C.

Elizabeth Ann “Nanny” Constance Orr

Elizabeth Ann “Nanny” Constance Orr, 90 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord and loved ones on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at her daughter’s residence on Gladdens Creek Road in Robbinsville. Ann was the daughter of the late Homer Constance and the late Agnes Moody Constance.

James Malcolm “Big Jim” Cantrell

Mr. James Malcolm “Big Jim” Cantrell, 71 of Spring City, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, in the Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn.  He was born Dec. 7, 1949, in Maryville, Tenn. He was a member of the Whites Creek Baptist Church in Rockwood, Tenn.

Miranda Millsaps born into a love of music

As far back as Miranda “Mandy” Seagle – now Millsaps – can remember she has loved music and singing.   Her father Danny Seagle played with a band called “The Toy Factory” which included some members of the Marshall Tucker Band.

Auditor concerned about DOT finances

Despite the N.C. Department of Transportation not exceeding its spending plan for the first half of fiscal year 2021, the N.C. Office of the State Auditor has still expressed some concerns.

Injured woman rescued on Skyway

Cherohala – A pleasant afternoon hike Saturday to Graham County’s highest mountain, Big Huckleberry – elevation 5,460 feet – turned into a rescue mission. The Graham County 911 center received a call around 3:30 p.m. that a woman had fallen near Oak Knob and was injured.

Ongoing projects discussed

Robbinsville – Some ongoing Graham County projects have moved forward in recent weeks.  Graham County Manager Jason Marino Gave updates on various projects at the Graham County Board of Commissioners continued meeting, held Monday, Oct. 4.
