Contractor, HUD reach impasse

Robbinsville – A local woman and daughter are being threatened with eviction, as sparks fly between a local contractor and local U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administrator Four Square Community Action.

Renee Jenkins Adams

Renee Jenkins Adams, 56 of the Atoah Community in Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C. She was the daughter of Eloise Phillips Jenkins – who passed away three days after Renee – and the late William Hall Jenkins.

Shirey “Mike” Braswell passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020. He was 87 years old.  Mike was born Aug. 2, 1933 in Newland, N.C. to his parents Linville and Hettie (Anderson) Braswell. He joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War as a medic. Upon returning to the U.S.

Viar arraigned on statutory sex charges

Robbinsville – A mere seven days passed between Devin McKinnley Viar’s DWI conviction and new charges being filed on the 25-year-old former Graham County sheriff’s deputy. Viar, who lists an address of 452 Old U.S. 129, had a warrant for his arrest filed on Oct. 14.
