* An active member of the Robbinsville community drowned in a boating accident at Massey Branch Boating Access area. Ralph Hooper and his wife took their boat to the ramp, but when loading it on a trailer, it slipped away into deep water.

* Stanley Furniture announced the opening of a furniture factory-outlet store. The old Dale Electronics building on Fort Hill was the site. All furniture pieces were discontinued, damaged or scratched items.

* A color guard led by Arvil Webster and Jim Bowman posted flags to open the annual Memorial Service. Speaker Leonard Lloyd emphasized how proud they were to think about those that they had served with, and “the ones that didn’t make it back.

* Three local graduates from Tri-County Community College – Andy Lynn, Leon Allen and Mitch Colvard – were chosen from Graham County to earn a degree in emergency medical science.

* Forward Pass Productions, Inc., had an open call for Native American men 18 years and older to appear in the major motion picture, The Last of the Mohicans.

* The annual ramp festival – the Graham County Rescue Squad’s main fundraiser – sold about 400 less plates this year over the previous year. The only thing that saved the festival from being a washout was contributions of $1,000 from four area churches.

* It was an unexpected day-off for Robbinsville Elementary School students, when vandalism was discovered in the kitchen. Dietician Kim Williams explained that overnight, vandals had cut phone lines, and entered through a vent in the roof.
