County to receive funds for reopening schools

Graham County has netted some money to help its public schools reopen safely in the wake of COVID-19.  According to a press release from State Rep. Karl Gillespie, R-Franklin, Graham County Schools will receive $1,252,350 from the $1.6 billion allotted by Senate Bill 36.

Neowne Hooper Adams, 101 of the Snowbird Community in Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021 at her residence, after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Belle Lovin Hooper.

Lynda Saunooke

Lynda Saunooke, 79 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Nick and Nora Brown Saunooke.

Council approves patrol agreement

Lake Santeetlah – Off-duty Graham County deputies will now be paid to patrol Lake Santeetlah in uniform – and in sheriff’s department vehicles – in a deal struck with Graham County Sheriff Jerry Crisp. The measure was approved 4-1, with Roger Carlton opposed.

‘Well done, my good and faithful servant’

Snowbird – One of Graham County’s last-living links to a bygone age was laid to rest Friday.  Neowne Hooper Adams died Feb. 9 at the age of 101 and was buried at Carver Cemetery.  Born in a boxcar at a logging camp shantytown near Citico, Tenn. on Oct.

Ruth Brown

Ruth Brown, 83 of Robbinsville, N.C., stepped into heaven on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, with her family by her side, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Ruth was a native of Edwardsville, Ala.

Dr. Ted Jenkins

Dr. Ted Jenkins, age 87 of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021 due to a brief and unexpected battle with cancer.  He was born on July 8, 1933 to Hector and Inez (Edwards) Jenkins in the Stecoah Community of Robbinsville, N.C.

Dr. David Morris Denton, Sr.

A man of family, faith and inclusivity, Dr. David M. Denton, Sr. of Frederick, Md., passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, peacefully at his home in Walkersville, Md. David was born Nov. 9, 1931 in Robbinsville, N.C. to Gwynn and Bess Denton. He was the last survivor of six siblings.
