10 years ago * A biker’s body was found a day after a fatal crash at Deal’s Gap. The fatality was not discovered for 24 hours, despite rescue workers efforts. The victim was identified as 39-year-old Ohio resident Michael J. Cupp.

10 years ago * N.C. Governor Beverly Perdue met with representatives from Graham, Clay and Cherokee Counties at the Tri-County Community College’s Robbinsville campus. “This is a listening tour for me,” Perdue said. The governor also visited the office and publisher of The Graham Star.

10 years ago * Twenty-five U.S. Marines – the Regiment Riders, from Camp Lejeune – arrived in Graham County, to spend a couple of days riding the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway, before deployment to Afghanistan.

10 years ago * Ronnie Hedrick recently purchased the Tapoco Lodge with plans to restore the lodge and its surroundings to its original grandeur of the 1930’s. The Lodge was built by the Tallahassee Power Company and bought by Alcoa to provide power for aluminum manufacturing.
